The idea behind the Lola etagere draws inspiration from the symbolic reference to one of the four elements of architecture — the hearth. “In this work, I aimed to understand the importance of this element and freely translate it into product design”, says Martin Jakobsen. Gottfried Semper, the architect who formulated the four elements of architecture, described the hearth as a place where people gather. “Fire, at the center of the hearth, and the associated act of preparing food, became the inspiration for creating an etagere”. It is a product designed to serve food, connect people around a table, and interact with its users.
